Protests and Parades: National day commemorations in Hungary and Czechoslovakia, 1918-1989. The postdoctoral position at the Masaryk Institute would provide me with an excellent opportunity to reshape my recently completed PhD thesis into a book manuscript for publication. Entitled ‘Protests and Parades: National day commemorations in Hungary and Czechoslovakia, 1918-1989’, I defended my thesis at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence in June 2016. I plan to submit the completed manuscript to a British or American university press and have been strongly encouraged to do this by my thesis defence committee, which consisted of Professor Nancy M. Wingfield, Professor Peter Haslinger, Professor Lucy Riall and Professor Pavel Kolář, who was also the supervisor of my thesis. In addition, during the postdoctoral position I will also complete an article, currently with the working title ‘Josef Pfitzner and his Prague of a thousand years, 1939-1945’, to be published in a peerreviewed, English-language scholarly journal, such as the Journal of Contemporary History, Contemporary European History or the European Review of History.
