Czech Academy of Sciences announces a call for the position of

Director of the Masaryk Institute and Archives of the Czech Academy of Sciences

Requirements:

• full legal capacity¹⁾,
• integrity pursuant to Section 17(4)(b) and (c) of Act No 341/2005 Coll., on Public Research Institutions, as amended,
• university degree and scientific qualification in history, archival science,
• scientific activity in one of the main fields of the research activities of the Institute with international recognition,
• organizational skills and management experience,
• active knowledge of Czech and English, other language skills an advantage,
• moral integrity,
• fulfilment of the conditions pursuant to Act No. 451/1991 Coll., laying down certain other prerequisites for the performance of certain functions in state bodies and organizations of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic, the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic, as amended (does not apply to applicants who are not citizens of the Czech Republic).

The director of the Institute cannot be a member of the management or supervisory bodies of legal persons carrying on business activities and cannot participate in the business of legal persons engaged in the area covered by the Institute. This restriction does not apply to the management of their own property (Article 17(6) of Act No 341/2005 Coll.).

Expected term in office: from 1 August 2025 to 31 July 2030

Applications and their annexes must be submitted in written form in Czech or English.

The application must include:

• a structured curriculum vitae,
• proof of university education and scientific qualifications,
• an overview of current and previous professional experience,
• a list of principal scientific work and publications,
• a management concept of the Institute and plan for development of its activities, including the strategic outlook for the Institute (recommended length 4–5 standard pages),
• a list of persons, including their contact information, who can provide professional references,
• an extract from the criminal record no older than 3 months¹⁾,
• an affidavit of integrity pursuant to Section 17(4)(c) of Act No 341/2005 Coll.¹⁾

Fulfillment of the conditions pursuant to Act No. 451/1991 Coll., shall be presented by the successfully selected candidate to the President of the CAS no later than on the date of appointment to the position of Director of the Institute.

All applications received by 15:00 CET on 25 April 2025 will be considered.

If the application does not meet all the above-mentioned content and formal requirements, the applicant will be excluded from the selection procedure.
