Parliamentarism and political culture in the Czech lands and Czechoslovakia 1848–1948

Research on the development of modern parliamentarism, political culture, electoral behaviour, political partying and the constitutional and political system has a long tradition at the Masaryk Institute and the Archives of the CAS. Attention to these topics is not only devoted to them as such, but mainly in connection with the distinct specificities of the Central European space, i.e., in particular, multiethnicity leading to the emergence of parallel and more or less closed political cultures; delayed political modernization following industrialization only with a significant distance; and the alternation of relatively democratic, authoritarian or explicitly totalitarian regimes. In addition to traditional methods and forms, the most modern trends, especially in the field of digital humanities, have been applied in research approaches to these topics.
