Střed | Centre: Call for papers for an open-theme issue

Deadline for submissions
30. 6. 2026

The journal Střed | Centre: Journal for Interdisciplinary Studies of Central Europe in the 19th and 20th Centuries calls for papers for an open-theme issue. We welcome research articles of between 6,000 and 10,000 words that cover the full breadth of the journal’s scope: the historical study of society, culture, politics and economics in broadly understood Central Europe from the 19th century to the present.

Completed manuscripts for this issue may be submitted to the editorial office at stred@mua.cas.cz until June 30, 2026. Detailed instructions for authors are available on the journal’s website. Previous issues of the journal can be accessed via the journal's website and the CAS Digital Library.

Střed| Centre is a peer-reviewed diamond open-access journal focusing on the study of society, culture, politics, and economics in the area stretching from Bregenz to Luhansk, and from Dubrovnik to Tallinn, from the 19th century to the present. The journal’s disciplinary focus is on historical sciences and humanities and social sciences with a historical focus, emphasising interdisciplinary dialogue. Střed | Centre aims to bring together the vast yet highly fragmented field of research devoted to the Central European area. To this end, the journal publishes texts in English, although we also accept manuscripts in other regional languages, which will be translated at our expense. Střed | Centre is published twice a year, combining thematic and open-theme issues. The journal is indexed in the international databases of scientific periodicals: SCOPUS, EBSCO, ERIH Plus and CEEOL and from 2026 will be available through JSTOR. The journal is published by the Masaryk Institute and the Archives of the Czech Academy of Sciences and CEVRO University.
