Manuscripta. Study and inventory of manuscripts
The object of study of the research team is literary manuscripts in a wide time range from the Middle Ages to the end of the early modern period. The team's activities follow on from the activities of the Manuscript Inventory and Study Department, which was established in 1955 at the then Archives of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. One of the team's tasks is to make manuscript collections in the Czech Republic and manuscript bohemics abroad accessible, not only in the form of inventories, but especially through an electronic database of manuscripts and a bibliography of codicological literature. Other research topics focusing on specialised groups of manuscripts (especially illuminated, heraldic or musical manuscripts), the history of medieval libraries, narrative sources and more general codicological topics or related auxiliary historical sciences are gradually coming to the forefront of scientific interest.
