With the relaunch of the collections databases, a milestone in digitization of the collections at Mauthausen Memorial was reached in early 2026. From now on, information from different collection areas such as written records, photography, oral history, artefacts, and the library can be accessed without any previous registration.
The contents of the former online database have been migrated and were in some cases thoroughly revised. In addition, numerous databases, previously only available on site, have been integrated too. Overall, the Mauthausen Memorial’ collections databases index the sources on the history of the concentration camps and the concentration camp memorials in Austria. The webinar offers not only insights into different collection areas but also provides background information on the development of the database, as well as on challenges and decisions, for example on how to deal with sensitive content or consolidation of keywording.
The new database on Mauthausen Memorials’ collections will be presented by Ralf Lechner, Head of Collections, and René Bienert, curator of Photo and Oral History.
