The project focuses on the electoral events in the Bohemian Lands and Galicia and Bukovina during the revolution of 1848. The analysis of electoral processes, agitations and the behaviour of the population will lead to a comparison of the accompanying phenomena and election results. The project results will allow not only to understand the so-called voting culture of these areas, but also to characterize and classify the emerging political culture of the individual ethnic groups living in the study area in the period when civil society is being formed. The analysis will be carried out both from “above”, i.e. from the perspective of the elites (elected MPs, state authorities, important intellectuals with an active involvement in public life), and from “below” as well, i.e., from the perspective of the voters. The research will concentrate on the development of electoral legislation, the forms and contents of communication between political elites and voters, electoral behaviour with regard to the occurrence of pathological phenomena. The collection of personal and electoral data of MPs will allow to reconstruct and classify types of parliamentary careers.
